I started my EMMETT Practitioner Training, in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland, in February 2015. I only planned to attend Modules 1&2 to see what it was all about. Two years and twelve modules later, I have achieved the status of Advanced EMMETT Practitioner.
I was taught and supported by Sue Gassick, Director and Senior Instructor at EMMETT Therapies UK & Ireland and by her colleague Lesley Salt, also a Senior Instructor at EMMETT Therapies. Their excellent skills and vast experience sustained my motivation and interest throughout the course.
The internationally recognised EMMETT technique developed by Ross Emmett and taught in over thirty countries worldwide can be applied to both people and animals. It works well as a standalone approach but can easily be combined with other complementary therapies such as massage and Bowen therapy.
There is no current scientific explanation for the mechanism by which it achieves the relaxation response. However, Ross Emmett believes a good analogy is that of a digital touch-screen. The EMMETT points are small sensory receptors that allow access to the brain via the therapist’s touch. The brain then evaluates this stimulus and initiates the relaxation response of the soft tissue. The pressure required is not heavy or painful. “No pain no gain” has no place in the EMMETT therapist’s approach.
My clients are now benefitting from EMMETT moves that I seamlessly incorporate into my other bodywork therapies. They are always surprised at how such gentle, light moves can trigger a relaxation response in the soft tissue of the body and provide feelings of improved comfort.
